Try the Birria Tacos at Taco Zocalo

Aug.05, 2022

From chicken tinga to barbecue brisket, the eclectic meats are what really make the Mexican food at Taco Zocalo so special. Chef Basir crafts his signature tacos with your choice of traditional Mexican proteins—like the chicken tinga or the beef barbacoa—as well as more American options, from the barbecue brisket to the ground beef. The accouterments perfectly complement the meat either way. They include freshly made pico and guacamole, sour cream or chipotle-infused sour cream, cheese, and cabbage.

Prefer a burrito bowl? Chef Basir can make that for you, too, featuring a foundation of rice, beans, and corn with comparable toppings. If you’re lucky enough to stop in on a Tuesday or Sunday you can sink your teeth into the birria tacos, featuring shredded beef embellished simply with cheese, onions, and cilantro. Round out the main dish with simple sides like chips and salsa or elote (Mexican street corn), and save room for dessert! The kitchen cranks out piping-hot churros and creamy slices of tres leches cake, which serve as the perfect final flourish after a tantalizing meal here.
